The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide.
On average, the WFP reaches more than 80 million people in 75 countries with food assistance each year. WFP is the leading organization working for a world without hunger and is often the first on the ground in times of crisis. In addition, WFP works in developing countries to prevent disasters. The organization is entirely dependent on voluntary contributions. Donors, such as the Flemish government, are the main source of income for WFP. In affected areas, WFP also works on food security for the future. This is done through programs that use food to build infrastructure, spread knowledge and help form stronger and more dynamic communities.
Flanders regularly finances humanitarian actions of the WFP.
In 2020 the WFP won the Nobel Peace Prize.
